| Patient Perspective

Another patient had to say this:
"I walked into
your waiting room for the first time, angry and fearful,
feeling embarrassed at my weight, and very betrayed by my body
in the health issues for which I was seeking another
opinion.
I sat down in a chair beside 'Elsie', the
bronze statue of a 73-year-old woman with her arms opened
wide. I read her poem, and found myself smiling and feeling
warmed, as if I'd met Elsie, and met a kindred spirit in
another woman. My eyes roamed the room and I found more
statues, more women to know and more poems. And in those
bronze forms and words, I recognized various aspects of
myself; aspects that I love, but too often
forget.
There is sincerity in these works of art that
rings purely true, when compared to other similar efforts by
books, magazines, corporations to help women love themselves
and their bodies. Just by taking in these wonderful
expressions around the waiting room, I was able to let the
fear and anger fade to the background, and found myself
thinking that however this all turned out, it would be ok".
